Channel not staying muted

When I mute a channel I need it to stay muted for a reason. If televisions started unmuting themselves for ads there would be an outcry and people would either buy tvs which could not do that or they would stop watching. At the moment any channel that auto-unmutes I stop watching. Please end this "feature" or twitchtv will never become mainstream.

  • This seems like a problem on your end and not Twitches, I haven't seen anyone else with this issue unless you mean the sound is being unmuted when Ads are played (I'm sure Ads override the mute on the player).

    How often does this happen?
  • yes ads are overriding the mute on the player. As I said, if tvs did this (which is technically possible) then viewers would be very angry and many would stop watching tv.

I am asking that the mute button on the player be a real mute that does not get overriden by anything. I do not see twitch ever becoming popular until the viewing public can have full control of the player.

  • I think with the way the ad system is currently implemented, it isn't possible. Numerous people have complained about that same thing and I do agree with you - this seems to be quite the annoyance if you're trying to watch multiple streams at once etc.

This is a known problem and Twitch constantly works with their ad partners to try and correct it, since the ad creator is the one that has to build support for volume control into their ad.
