I was wondering if this laptop would suit my streaming needs...

Hey, all! Kappa

I'd like to start streaming my PlayStation 3 games with a Hauppauge HD-PVR. I've been scouring the internet to try and find a laptop that would allow me to stream at decent quality. I came across the ACER Aspire V3-571G.

Here's a link for the specs: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-v3-571g-15-6-laptop-black-12448375-pdt.html

It seems to have everything I need, but being absolutely clueless when it comes to computers, I could be wrong.

Can anyone here confirm if this laptop is good enough?

Thanks.

It's not terrible but it's not exactly a good laptop. It helps that you're streaming console games, because pc games would likely choke it.
  • You probably won't be able to push an HD stream, but it will do fine at a lower resolution. As Fire mentioned for PC games it'll most likely choke.
  • Thanks for the responses.

I'm not bothered about not being able to stream in HD, to be honest. As long as it's watchable, I'll be happy. :D

I've actually come across another laptop now. It's another ACER Aspire, but it has a better processor and graphics card than the one I posted. A little more expensive, of course, but I can just about afford it.

    What's your budget?
  • I'd be willing to pay up to £1000 for a laptop. I've never had a good PC/laptop, so I just feel like spoiling myself. :D

EDIT: This is the other laptop I mentioned: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-v3-571g-17-3-laptop-14893762-pdt.html

    Looks like a good one...

That's a good laptop. Decent CPU, and not so great GPU. With Nvidia 640M don't expect playing everything at high settings and stream it.
For console games, you should be able to push HD stream without a problem.

Oh yes, the processor in that laptop is worlds better. The GT650M is an "ok" chipset, but not very strong for gaming. Since you're streaming console games, this laptop would be just fine. If your internet is fast enough, you should even be able to stream HD.
  • Good stuff. Thanks guys.

My internet is pretty lame at the moment (Sky Broadband). I'm upgrading to fibre optic soon.
