Chat not working.

The chat will not load on any streams. I have tried reloading multiple times. Have tried many different streams and no chat works for any. Just shows the little turning wheel at top but never loads....

Edit: It will sometimes out the details of the chat like This room is now in slow mode. Viewers have alimit on their lines per minute.. But no chat will pop up.

Edit2: So in IE chat is working fine. So its a Google chrome thing.. Anyone have any ideas?

  • I was watching Minecraft last night. Same thing at first, then worked. Today it it broken again. I use Google Chrome.
  • yep, i use chrome all the time. Since yesterday its broken in chrome, but still works in Internet Explorer. But rather no chat than using internet explorer!!

  • Hi all,

By saying chat is not loading, are you guys saying that its doing a loading icon which turns in a circular motion on chat? Or does chat no appear at all?

    Thanks!
  • for me too, it comes up with the area chat should be in, at the bottom it has the bar which u type in, and the button to enter it into chat, and at the top left there is the loading circular icon, but no chat is loading, there is no writing and i am unable to type anything in, i use google chrome too
  • Same as nuclear here, chat box appears with loading circle, chat never loads. Tested on IE and Google Chrome, no dice.
  • same thing with firefox, chat bar is there but no chat window nothing happens when i type something in the bar and hit send.

  • the same thing happens to me also, white box, blue loading circle at the top. i can see the chat box and can use the options tab for editing chat, but the chat itself wont load and i cannot interact with the input box for chat. i am using google chrome and firefox, does not work on either, running an hp pav. 9700 2 hz 4gb ram, hope the technical specs help, also does the same thing on the other household computer. thanks jtv!

Edit: i'm running windows vista on my laptop and windows 7 on my other.

  • I'll echo these comments. I have never once been able to chat using Chrome. The space appears, a blue dot chasing its tail appears (ie the chat_spinner.gif), the settings bar appears and I can click on it (though not the actual chat submission 'speak' box) and that's that.

I can however, chat perfectly fine using my iPhone and the twitch.tv app!

  • It does the same thing for me except it says im banned. Now just to get this straight im not banned, the streamer and mods said im not even appearing in the banned list. Its been like this for a while now and its really annoying me
  • I'm also having trouble logging into the rockinroosterz chat. I can see the comments from everyone but When I log in it was accepting my user name and password,  however when i click to comment the login comes up again. Now it's saying the password is wrong. I'm using Mac with firefox.
    :)]
  • I can't even read the chat!ITS ALL BLANK!
  • It happens for me when using Chrome, I can't even watch the streams. It has been going on for about a month now. It works fine in IE, though.
  • im using ie and it does not even work, it does not even have the loading thing

  • after i logged in, the chat just disappeared...
  • i use firefox. chat just has the loading circle thingy and never loads. i thought it might be an addon or something but i guess other browsers have the same prob
  • My chat hasn't been working for 3 days straight. This is unacceptable.
I've had the circular loading icon in a perpetual loading state in every room that I go to. I've downgraded and reupgraded my flash, cleared cache and cookies, and none of these have fixed the problem. I've checked multiple other sites with services like what twitch has and this is the only website with this problem.

I have a friend who had his issue, unfortunately I can't offer a solution;  To fix it he used system restore to go back to a previous state. A work around would be to use IRC http://www.justin.tv/p/irc_guide  to talk to the streams chat. Sorry I couldn't help more.
  • A lot of these chat problem seem to be caused by the newer versions of Flash. You can try downgrading your Flash player. If you are using Google Chrome, make sure you try in another browser. Chrome packages its own version of Flash so you don't really have a choice whether to upgrade or not.
  • well the best thing to do is fix twitch, not us its getting really annoying now. And i want to keep crome
  • Same thing for me. Certain channels it works, others though, spinning wheel of "LOL NO". I've messaged Mods on the stream I know to double check and make sure I didn't get banned on accident, and they can confirm I am indeed in the clear. This is driving me nuts.

Also tried Chrome, IE, Firefox, downgrading flash, flushing my router... still nothing.

  • Yep same to me fcking annoying -.- and cant find a sulution at all.
  • this is a reoccurring problem for many users, twitch needs to find the solution ASAP
  • Same problem here, stuck with the perpetual loading circle. It is a real pain, it would definitely be nice if this could be fixed soon :(
  • Is anyone at TwitchTv looking into this issue? I can't stand IE, so it pisses me off that I have to use it just to see chat.
  • My chat box times out all the time.  If I don't consistently chat almost every 15 seconds, the chat stop updating and I can't see new lines unless I refresh the page.  Chrome and Firefox
  • same shit for me somtimes it works somtimes it doesnt
  • i try loading chat on any page it dosent load the circular loading icon is in a perpetual loading state it litterly wont work and i use firefox
  • so is this problem being looked into? having the same problem using Firefox, it occasionally freezes my browser for about 5 seconds when loading. Also the chat seems to randomly appear after refreshing like crazy

Are you running any adblocking plugins or software?

Also for test's sake, try disabling your anti virus and see if that helps momentarily (kaspersky has been known to cause weird issues with flash)
  • I got no adware plugin or Anti Virus running and i got the problem as well.
I think that the problem might be something with a timeout of some sort as the chat works fine the first couple of mins.
