Live Stream Quality Guide (for Beginners)

I wrote this guide to familiarize beginners to streaming with the basics and the common terminology.

I am working on some more advanced guides (mostly specific to XSplit software) currently.

  • Thanks for the guide. I'm currently troubleshooting frame rate issues with my stream. I have the hardware and upstream to support an excellent stream, just trying to work out the kinks.
  • Great, good luck with getting your stream setup and tweaked.
  • Yeah, any guide or tips for xsplit would be awesome.... im running an Dell i7 with 4.25 upload. I get some pretty good stream running but looking to really tweak it to perfection...any tips?
  • Thx for guide
  • i am running a phenom x4 965 black 8 gb ram and a radeon 6870 1gb and streaming using adobe and the specs you said above. my internet has about a 900k upload and 10mb down but my fram rate are horrid. could this be the systme? Or manycam and adobe?
  • Phenom is a MEH CPU. Only about as good as a Core 2 Quad when clocked similarly. i5 2500k/i7 2600k OC is probably the best.

The i7 3k series is actually best for encoding at the moment, though they're not exactly cost efficient.
  • hmmm I recently joined and want to stream but I'm on a Core 2 Duo, is there a way I can still stream (bf3,sc2,etc.) with my computer + a laptop to take the weight off the CPU usage?

@em0ng if you want to do that kind of setup you'd have to have a capture card on one computer and output a cloned desktop from your second output on the graphic's card into the capture card on the other computer.

Comp 1 graphics card -> Comp 2 capture card
  • alright thank you, time to see google about some question (:
  • i've got a mac so i cant use xsplit do you have a tut for using the other apps available to stream with on this site

Ok this sounds like something I need to do I have 2 pcs and can clone to 2nd monitor, so your saying just send that 2nd feed to the capture card correct? what type capture cards do you suggest I would like 720 stream can understand I may have to settle for much less.

It's the ONLY guide written by XSplit community staff, and will be the only XSplit guide you need to read to get you up and going with an awesome stream.  There's also a video version of the guide!
