Streaming help

Hi everyone,
I'm a new streamer and I need some insight into what settings I should be using. I am using xsplit and have been testing what settings to stream at but still cannot get them right. I am trying to stream WoW at 720p using dxtory and i have a intel i5-2500 cpu @3.3Ghz with 8 GB of RAM. I just went to speedtest.net and got a DL of 43.74 Mbps and UL of 34.55 Mbps. The issue I'm having is more with the bitrate than anything else I think but I could be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • have you ran the built in xsplit speed test and get a green light?

if you get a slow connection to the twitch server you can change the server and try the test again

  • I've run the xsplit test many times as well but continually get a red light. Idk what I'm doing wrong but it always gives me the red light...
  • that could mean you need to turn down your bitrate.image

my connection to the london server is average 2010kbps so i would set it to about 80% of that.

  • I turned to bitrate down to 1000 for both and am still getting red results
  • have you tried changing the server location?
  • My server location is US East New York because I'm in New Jersey. So I figured that would be the closest location to where I am. These are the results I'm getting if I switch back to the 2500, 2500 settings I was using first.

Your bandwidth to server is probably not sufficient.
You can redo the test, but if the test consistently gives you a RED signal, you may consider lowering your combined audio bitrate and max video bitrate to below 2628 kbps.
  • ive seen a few people have issues with the new york server, maybe cus its a busy server. try changing it to the next closest and run the test again
  • US East VA worked a little bit better. This is with the same settings.

If the test consistently gives you a YELLOW signal, you may consider lowering your combined audio bitrate and max video bitrate to slightly below 2628 kbps.

  • I think that may have been the issue. I couldn't get yellow or green for the life of me in New York but somehow Virginia and Miami both give me green results.

Yeah for most of the east coast, Virginia (it's secondary server specifically) is the strongest.
  • so set your bitrate to about 80% of your average 2593kbps to leave a bit of head room and you should be good to go :)

That may not always be the best idea ( it is in this case though ), your average will vary depending on how much you're trying to push out. You can test at 3k, get an average of 2.9k, drop it down to 2.5 and get an average of 2.3k. If you get a yellow or green test and there is very little variation in the results, you should be fine. However if there is a large discrepancy, you can do that and it should help.
