Question About Policies

Some while ago I had a stream banned for showing wrestling,  It was purely by accident and the stream was killed off with no right of appeal (can't help but feel that as a first offence it was a touch harsh).  Still I understand as in the terms and conditions it does mention about showing physical violence.

So with that in mind, why is there a category on Justin and Twitch the mentions wrestling and other programming of such nature?  More so there are channels streaming exactly what I was banned for yet no action has been taken.

I;m not going out of my way here to be an ass about this.  I did email it and apologise as the girlfriend had changed the channel not realising I was streaming from the PC) but seeking clarification on rules and procedures.  Like I say just odd others are still streaming what I got banned for etc.

Thanks

First of all, Twitch is only for gaming content. Not sports, wrestling, cute puppies but gaming. If you want to stream anything else you will need to create a separate Justin.tv account in a category other than gaming.

Before your channel is closed, an admin will have asked you to stop in chat but it sounds like you were not at your computer to see the warning.

Justin.tv "does" have a wrestling category but they changed their policy to not allow violate sports to be streamed a couple of months ago. The category link on the site will be remove when they rollout an update on Monday.

Finally, if your channel was closed for copyright violations, thats a totally different issue.

  • Hi BGeorge.

Yup I realise that twitch and justin aren't the same.  Whenever I hit my channel via justin it took me to twitch for some reason despite setting up correct streaming categories etc.

Correct, i was out if there was any warning issued in the channel.  I do recall still checking out the chat in the channel before stoping the stream and logging out just in case and there was no warning in there.  Is a private message not sent out btw?  Next thing you I've gone to log back in the next morning and the channel is suspended with no warning.

I emailed the justin/twitch people who initially didn't respond as I guess stye get a lot of questions like mine etc only to be eventually told I broke the physical violence against others rules.

I'd hope people can understand why I'm a little miffed I get a instaban for an accidental stream but for months after streams were still going on casting almost 24/7

    * I'm assuming you were able to get your account unsuspended since you are posting here? Most of the time if your account has been in generally good standing you will be able to get it reopened if you email to appeal.

    * You will not be notified via PM why your account was suspended since you would not have access to the PM.

*If you were still being redirected to Twitch you probably did not change your category to another one besides gaming or you just changed it and the server cache has not had time to reset.

Also note that starting Monday you will only have the option to change your channel between Twitch and Justin.tv once so you will need to have a second non-gaming account for content not appropriate for Twitch.

  • Hi Bgeorge.  Thanks for the useful info so far.

Nope.  Account wasn't unsuspended.  I ended up having to create a new channel but loosing all my friends and followers on my old channel.  I did email in to appeal but got told about the broadcasting physical violence.  Left things for a while and then remembered the help forums :D

I'm sure there was no PM as like I say before I logged out the moment I realised it wasn't streaming my pc, checked my PM's saw none, nothing in my inbox either and then logged out.  Next day couldn't log back in.

In fact I just checked a few things.  no pm, no response to email all I got was a response via twitter.

"I reviewed the case, and it appears that you were broadcasting wrestling. Please read our Human Violence policy here:  "

If there is a chance to appeal can you let me know please.  As I posted it was a genuine mistake (i know, I know people say that all the time) but I hope you can see my point and why I;m following up on this.

If your channel is a twitch channel you should have emailed help@twitch.tv , but you may have waited too long. ( if you did email help@twitch.tv originally, then yes there is no chance, the decision has been finalized )
