Constant black screen on every twitch channel

Whenever I load up a streams - any stream - the screen stays black with no audio. When I pause the stream, I'll see the thumbnail, but when I unpause, I only see the red "Live" with number of viewers in the upper right hand corner.

Sometimes the stream will work when I have it unpaused and the streamer restarts their stream. But otherwise, it just stays black.

I've deleted all cookies for twitch, cleared all local storage data, and my flash is completely up to date. I'm using the most up to date Firefox browser.

How can I fix this so I can get back to watching streams?

  • It says the stream is online and the chat is working but the screen shows the channels offline screen. I have tried updating my adobe player but still not working. Please help
  • I have the same issue, and posted the same thing, essentially.

Also same issue, and it's a recent development...eagerly awaiting help.  I had a glimmer of success clearing out Chrome's history, then trying again.  I could see the featured feed on the home page, but as soon as i logged in then it disappeared.
  • Same with me bro,

created a case about this about 1 month ago, still no answare
i even tried to send in a mail, they asked for pictures and i sendt them in, but as i sayd, waited 1 month and still no answare.

    Im also waiting for answare.

See my post about this with alot of explanations with pictures etc: http://support.twitch.tv/discussion/3434/streaming-a-video-problems-on-twitch-tv#latest

  • So it's been a week and I can only see a stream if it's on the frontpage, and even then it will just stop working and never respond again.

The resolution options won't load with the stream, and that's how I know it won't work. Sometimes when I pause and unpause the stream it will work for a little bit, but ultimately it just does not work.

    Twitch support please respond.
  • I've had it set on allow and upped the memory to 1MB, but nothing worked.

I switched browsers (Aurora and IE, originally on Firefox), still nothing worked. Disabled all add-ons, still nothing worked. Tried updating flash, but it's the most recent version. Cleared all local storage data and reloaded, still it didn't work.

Honestly stumped as all hell. Missing out on esports doesn't feel good either.
  • More or less same problems for me .

I sometimes can follow streams with low viewers (less than 1k) for a little time , but then i'm back to the overlay ...
  • Recently i had this issue with nothing but lower viewer streams,  now it's everyone,  OneMoreGameTV, teamsp00ky, Purge, all black screen for me today..  managed to get some debug info.

Can you test another browser and computer?

  • Can you test another browser and computer?
I'm currently unable to do so. I hope someone else can give it a try.

Other people on the Internet that I know do not see to have the same problem, but I can't test another computer on my connection.
  • I don't know why but I can't watch some stream... For exemple, I can't see Hero's stream but I can see FiveYearOld's stream.
I just don't know why and it does that with 2 different browsers and on 2 different computers...

Any kind of help would be welcome!
    Thanks in advance!
  • I have just recently tested the same computer on a different connection, and now the twitch streams are working. I'm unsure if this is really helpful in solving whatever the problem is at large. What it is about the connections to make them unstable enough for the streams?

If I was the only one with the problem, then I would just assume there was an issue with my connection alone - but this seems to be affecting others.

I hope this helps in some way towards a solution.
  • I bet because you can see streams from own3d.tv but not twitch.tv

    I'm having the same issue.

I cannot watch any streams from twitch at the moment.  They are all black screens.

    Anyone know why?
  • Same black everywhere.
  • Posted this in another discussion, someone with a similar problem:

  • SOLUTION:  You need to make sure TCP Ports 843 and 1935 are not being blocked outgoing on your firewall.  This fixed the issue right up for me.  Apparently Twitch.TV has changed some ports in the way they stream.
  • If you are a real security nerd you can lift those outgoing ports directly to Twitch.TV's servers at the following network: 199.9.248.0/21.

Twitch hasn't changed any ports, it's always been 1935 ( standard RTMP port ), and 843 is used for socket policy ( for flash ) as I recall. Glad you found a solution for you though!

Well, it worked for me before without having those ports open outgoing - no joke.  So something appears to have changed, not sure what though.
  • Maybe it was accepting port 80 before and now it isn't?  Just throwing that out there.

I'm still having the issue with the black screen.  Seems to be happening on all browsers.  There is another conversation about this in the justin.tv community forums with multiple people with this issue
http://community.justin.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=11298 but no one has seemed to have been able to come up with a way to solve it either

Hi All, can you give me your location and your flash player version? Send me a private message.
  • I have the same problem as well, but my chat window is also not working. I have the latest flash version.

I looked at changing the firewall stuff, but can't figure out how to do it. I have windows 7. This has been going on for two days now. lol, i don't wanna miss the redbull battlegrounds! Although, now that i think about it, Day[9]tv still works for me (I watched the live show on wednesday at least) so maybe I can catch it there.

  • I have this problem as well. Only on the PC. Mac is fine. Flash Player Version is 11,2,202,235. I have turned Window Firewall off with no success.

  • Every stream is black :(  says i have to download flashplayer which ive done several times. Why does twitch not register my flashplayer.
  • Didn't notice this thread. Happy that it's not just me. But also sad cause so many people are affected buy it. Try to ran twitch/jtv from FF/Chrome/Opera/IE and nothing works. On Opera it keeps asking me to update my flashplayer. I'm currently running the latest flash version
11,2,202,235. Tried it with my Firewall turned off but it also did not work.
  • I am missing the RedBull lan now thanks to the lack of response or help for this issue!!!
