Organize twitch.tv channels into categories like justin.tv used to be

For example if I want to see all channels that have to do with role playing games I would click:

gaming --> role playing

then it would show all the channel streaming RPG games.

Currently I can't find any RPG channels to watch on twitch.tv because I have to sort through a million starcraft & league of legend channels.

Fix this in the next 2 days.

  • yeah that would be cool and more interesting on the twitch.tv main page for viewers.
the design with the different games and the streams with most viewers isn't bad but there is like always the same 5-6 games on it and sometimes some games only have 1 channel with like 10 viewers.
but there are so many great streams beside sc2,mc,lol w/e that deserves more attention.

so you could change it to game genres or more special categories like speedrunning/retro/casual gaming with chat talk ...  don't know~

i mean ... it is ok for a game like sc2 were the top streamers have 1k+ viewers but it would be cool for other streamers to get on the main page and not just randomly xx times a day on the 4? highlight spots at the top.
i would be interesting too for new people that might of think to start streaming in other genres.

uh talking a lot about the main page but if you can change the streams into genres that would be an idea for the new main page design with more variety

would be cool if you think about it or give a reply about that possibility.

    thanks for reading !

    Hi,

We are basing all categories by what game you are set to.

The problem with asking someone to pick categories is people generally picked one, then stuck to it forever. Since then, we have made it really easy to set what game you are on, and are trying to add incentives to get people to set the right game! Such as being listed properly!

In the future, we already plan to tie data to certain game selection, like genre and possibly console (probably harder since some games are multi console) But we will not have pickable categories. Instead, the 'categories' for genre will be tied to the games themselves.

  • Greetings,

Do you have any ETA on adding these genre filter settings?

As a user who goes to Twitch.tv .. I personally want to be able to find MMO streams.  This was very EZ with the JTV categories.

  • Horror,

If I want to get a list of role playing games that are currently listed on twitch.tv how would I do that?

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. Can you just add categories without making things 29301 times more complex than they have to be?

Right now for the time being, you'll have to just search by game.
  • Can we get this feature implemented already? I'm looking for new RPG games to play. So I don't know what game I want to look for. All I know is I want a list of RPG games that are being streamed so I can watch them all.

Currently there are 505 live channels but how the hell am I supposed to view all the ones related to RPG games?
  • It would be cool if each game was updated to include the genre, so one you selected the game you were playing then people could search for the genre or the game. For example, let's say you go live and play Halo: Reach. Once you select the game title; viewers can search for First Person Shooters, and find your stream, or other streams that are FPS games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, or Battlefield 3.
  • This would probably cost them over $150,000.00 to implement.

But I'd be happy to do it for free. It would only take 2 hours. PHP/Linux/ASP.NET/C#....
