Connect to chat via Mibbit IRC webclient

Here's a guide to connect to any stream's chat with Mibbit, an IRC webclient.
If you are experiencing chat issues this will give you an alternative way to stay in touch.

Mibbit Web Client:  http://chat.mibbit.com/

Note:
               • It may take a few seconds to load the new tab and to get into the chat room.
If necessary type '/join #streamname' once connected.
You don't have to create an account on Mibbit but doing so will allow you to save your setup.
Twitch will only allow you to be in 5 chat's at the same time using this method.

To connect to chat via other IRC clients see: http://www.justin.tv/p/irc_guide. I recommend XChat.

  • I've seen a few streamers who are able to keep the chat box permanently in front of the window in which they are viewing and playing the game. Does Mibbit work like that? I'm a little tired of having to constantly pull up the twitchtv chat box while I'm gaming. Would be nice to see the chat box so I can see what my followers are saying in real time.

    Thanks!
    ;)
  • o thank you i have been haveing chat problems with reletivly small casts for the last 2 years ... hopefully this will do till it back to normal on the streams i visit
  • is there a way to do ssl irc (not using plaintext)?
  • FireFire Moderator
    @prometheanfire You can try
http://wiki.mibbit.com/index.php/SSL , but I don't think Twitch IRC supports SSL
  • for some reason, I am unable to acces my channel at all. I've done all of those steps a multiple time.

@lowgaming What kind of problem do you have? Make sure you are typing your username in all lowercase letters.
  • How to change twitch.tv in-site chat to IRC-chat, example, Quakenet? This function is on own3d & regame.
  • havokkhavokk Moderator
@dieforsos, Twitch does not offer those features.

  • Is anyone able to give me a hand connecting via mirc?
    irc server: <channel name>.jtvirc.com
    port: 6697
    group: <blank>
    Password: Twitch password

    It says i'm connecting to tmi.twitch.tv:6667 (199.9.253.199:6667)

i have one other question hopefully someone can assist me with ???

i have seen in some channels where they're able to set mode +m
is any channel able to utilize the moderated chat function?
I'm a mod for someone who is partner with Twitch, and there are times that we need to "calm the troops down", so to speak.
ie.. getting a lot of trolls, and stopping all chat for a bit will help.
  • FireFire Moderator
@bismarcksd you can put the chat into slow mode with /slow (.slow in IRC)
  • so there's no way to implement moderated chat?
i've seen it on Kripparian's channel, however he does have paid subscriptions
  • FireFire Moderator
@bismarcksd that is the only way, and that is limited to a very specific subset of partners.
  • for some reason, I still can't connect to the irc chat
  • @v1ninja what error are you getting?
  • Ho un problema sono stata bannata ma senza motivo!!!! a chi mi posso rivolgere?

  • FireFire Moderator
@problemamia bans are up to the broadcaster and their mods, you should appeal your chat ban to them. For website bans you should email help@twitch.tv
  • I did everything the OP said and I it says "streamname.jtvirc.com: Terminated"
