Proxy Server listing!

Edit: This post is now obsolete. Xsplit now has a constantly up to date Proxy server list :) Leaving open for archives sake. You can find the best server list at http://api.justin.tv/api/ingest/xsplit.xml !

In this post you will find a temporary listing of the current RTMP addresses of the proxy servers for our website. Previously, we did not keep a good list of these servers for a few reasons.

The first major reason is that if we simply list the server addresses, we could have a lot of people picking the same address and filling up the server rather quickly. If this happens, all users on that server will experience lag. Our plan to fix this for the future is to let you know which servers are currently experiencing the heaviest load, so you can investigate stream lag issues on your own, without needing our input.

The second reason is that if we switch a location of a server, and it's old RTMP url changes, you will no longer be able to stream with the old url. This problem is starting to grow as programs like Xsplit hard code the locations into their own system, so that if we change the location, it could be days before they update their own list. Just keep in mind that any time you willingly stream to an alternative server, that there is a chance it could move. If you attempt to start your stream and are seeing nothing after picking a new RTMP address, check if others work first before escalating your issue. It could simply be that the server you used to use has moved.

Please keep in mind this is not our final idea for the RTMP list, but a temporary listing on these forums to help our elite users make their streams that much smoother. We plan on making much better, more frequently updated lists as soon as we can.

Global Load Balancing Service - rtmp://live-3c.justin.tv/app (will attempt to connect you to the server closest to you, try others if there are issues)

Justin.tv On-Net Proxies (Owned and Operated on our infrastructure)

 * San Francisco - rtmp://live.justin.tv/app (everything proxies back to this)
 * Ashburn, VA - rtmp://live-iad.justin.tv/app
 * Miamia, FL - rtmp://live-mia.justin.tv/app
 * New York, NY - rtmp://live-jfk.justin.tv/app
 * Los Angeles, CA - rtmp://live-lax.justin.tv/app
 * London, GB - rtmp://live-lhr.justin.tv/app
 * Amsterdam - rtmp://live-ams.justin.tv/app
 * Frankfurt - rtmp://live-fra.justin.tv/app

Justin.tv Off-Net Proxies (3rd Party Infrastructure):

* Dallas, TX - rtmp://live-dfw.justin.tv/app
* San Antonio, TX - rtmp://live-dfw-backup.justin.tv/app
* Los Angeles, CA - rtmp://live-lax-backup.justin.tv/app
* Herdon, VA - rtmp://live-iad-backup.justin.tv/app
* London, GB - rtmp://live-lhr-backup.justin.tv/app
* Asia - rtmp://live-sin-backup.justin.tv/app

Technically this was added a few days ago, but I was waiting to post this to get some info on it, and see if I should include other things as well! After I got told it was fine to post, I forgot that I didn't do it! But I'm going to post this late anyway since it's nice to get official words on things!

The Dashboard has been awesome to us, finally a place to put Broadcaster-only buttons that can help them with the control of their streams! You may be noticing it now has a third Activity tab, if you do not see it, you may still be using an old cache, clearing cache should fix that!

This tab will let you see what your editors and mods are up to! It will list all bans, timeouts, unbans, commercials, title changes, you name it! When you give people some form of 'power' it's good to know exactly how they use it, even when you aren't around! Finally, we have a tool that will help with that.

Please post here if you have any complaints or suggestions for this feature!

Update: For quite a while, everyone has been on the new beta chat servers, so no one needs to request it anymore! I'm leaving this thread open for archive sake until I decide it is no longer needed.

Been a busy week of requests, and I know my inbox is going to hate me for posting this.

It is pretty obvious we have been aware of the week of chat issues. We have been long overdue for a new chat backend, but several issues along the way have really delayed the release. Each time we thought we were close, we had to start over.

This is different! We actually have a beta ready for this new chat, and it is looking promising! Luck be it that as we get close to being able to put the new chat available to more people, our old one is dieing right before our eyes. We are going all out in trying to get rid of the old chat once and for all, and make this new one count!

The new chat loads fast, and doesn't lag! The only issue is that it is being rewritten from scratch, so it only supports a few commands so far:

Ban
Unban
Mod
Unmod
Subscribers
Subscribersoff
Timeout (/timeout name seconds, default 600 if no number is input)
Slow (/slow seconds, default 120 if no numbe is input: Does not warn the chat it was turned on (bug) )
Slowoff (does not warn the chat it was turned off)
clear

We are now only waiting for some hardware to make it more widely available! We want this up as fast as we can!

If you want in on the early beta, despite the lack of features, simply send me an email. Russell@twitch.tv I already get tons of requests to add people to this beta, so please don't blame me if I can't respond quickly! Everyone is on beta chat now! Hoorah!

Also note, that I am really aiming and hoping that we can get a much broader release ready for everyone by next week. Even if that means making the not so finished chat available to everyone. Primative chat is better then no chat.

I'll try to keep you updated, but the primary focus right now is to actually finish the chat!

PS: The bonus of all this is once we are done, we can add all sorts of new cool functions to the chatroom that you all have wanted for quite some time, but no spoilers!
